About the Instructor
Instructor: AKI

AKI is a sumi-e (Japanese ink painting) artist whose creative drive stems from what he calls “kokoro-udō” — the profound moment when the heart is moved. His work seeks to evoke genuine emotional responses: beauty, coolness, relaxation, and even a thrilling shiver.
Raised between Japan and the UK, AKI blends traditional Japanese techniques with modern sensibilities, creating powerful works within the monochrome palette of sumi-e. He skillfully uses contrast and empty space to spark the viewer’s imagination and convey elegance.
Beyond his creative practice, He serves as the President of the Japan Business Leaders Sumi-e Association, promoting the art of sumi-e both domestically and internationally. Since beginning his career in 2016, AKI has earned numerous accolades in national exhibitions, with his works displayed at prestigious venues such as The National Art Center, Tokyo.

Selected Achievements & Exhibitions
- Winner of the International Culture College Award (Japan)
- Honorable Mention at the Nihibiten National Art Exhibition (Japan)
- Multiple awards and selections at major sumi-e exhibitions across Japan
- 2025: Solo exhibition “Heart Exhibition” at Artist Cafe Fukuoka (city-run art venue) – attracted large audiences despite a short run
As an artist and cultural ambassador, AKI continues to explore the harmony between tradition and innovation, stillness and movement, constraint and freedom, believing these contrasts enrich artistic expression.
